Last updated: December 13th, 2007 Brian’s “Sabbatical” Over
I know, I know, it’s been a while since I last scribed. Please excuse my absence but I’ve been busy with some personal milestones. Now I’m back with my Frith-Smith brand of desiccated and decorticated wit to convey the most recent Nook happenings. So here it goes…
Shrimp and Grits back for a limited time only!
The legendary and—more important—beloved Shrimp and Grits are back! I can’t tell you how many devotees have asked me about this dish since it migrated off the menu. I’m not sure if it was the months of lobbying by our patrons (doubtful) or myself (even less likely), or if James is just in the giving mood for the holidays, but we’ve brought back this dish that so many adore. However, we'll be serving it for only a limited time. If you are among the hungry throngs who've been pining for that shrimp and those grits, I strongly urge you to come and order it sooner rather than later. (Jeanne Katzman, I know you’re reading this; make it snappy!)
Nookwear now available—just in time for the holidays.
Nook merchandise is available to the public for the first time ever! You’ll look great burning off the calories you acquired at Nook in your authentic Nookwear, and we want you to come out and represent! Sport your preference in the open, wear your food-gang affiliation with pride, and boldly declare favoritism for your neighborhood bistro! Nook swag is available in the store or via our website. We have shirts with our logo in two colors, plus the highly coveted baby blue Nook “girl” shirt. Also available are the famous “army” cap and the standard Nook baseball hat. Warning: If you do wear Nook merchandise publicly, please expect strangers to ask you how to find us. Good luck with that.
Nook Gift Cards, the perfect nondenominational footwear stuffer*
Everyone loves a Gift Card for the holidays, especially when it’s a Nook Gift Card. Now you can buy them online as well as in store! They are available in increments of $25. Caution: If you buy them online, please allow time for shipping. * "Nondenominational" in the theological sense; fiscally, the cards are denominated in American dollars.
Playing the market… salad.
Like most of the great chefs of our city, James can be spotted at the famous Wednesday Farmers Market in Santa Monica. Typically, he’ll grab some outstanding specialty items and incorporate them in our Nookuisine. Now, in homage to the seasonal offerings of the Farmers Market, we’ve decided to offer a salad on the menu featuring them on a regular basis. It’s going to be called… well you can figure it out. Our current salad highlights those rubies of winter: pomegranate with roasted sweet potato, pancetta lardons, arugula, pumpkin seeds and maple-orange dressing.
Sweetness
And of course, what would Fall be without the classic Pear and Cranberry Crumble? Nothing, I say. It’s back, with Tahitian Vanilla Gelato melting all over it. Come and get it!
